Diving into Al Jazeera Investigations

Investigative reporting has always been the part of journalism that intrigued me most. It is the main reason I entered the career field in the first place and most people know journalism for its award-winning investigations. They can create real change and positive outcomes when corruption is uncovered and made clear to the public.

When I was first exploring Al Jazeera's website, I noticed that they had a section dedicated to investigative reporting which I loved to see because I think they deserve their own tab on the website. Today I took a closer look at this section to see what Al Jazeera has been investigating.

They stay true to the overall theme of the publication by covering stories in every continent all over the world. I have to wonder what their budget is if they are able to conduct investigations all over the world though because long-term projects like this have fewer outcomes and can take longer, hence more money.

I noticed that they only come out with a few per month and that makes sense because like I said, investigations can take much longer. This is what the viewer sees once they click on the investigations tab.

One thing I noticed about these articles is that some of them are based on other investigations conducted by other organizations, so it is not all original reporting. I thought that this section would all be original investigations like some other news sites I have seen, but the ones labeled exclusive seem to be original reporting.

I think it would be nice for them to highlight their own investigations first since their employees put so much work into them, but I understand that they want to show them in chronological order.

Here are some of the investigations I saw on this page that sounded really cool and are original reporting.

This one above was super interesting because their own investigation leads to actual legal outcomes which just goes to show how impactful journalism can be.

This is another example of their exclusive reporting and I thought it was interesting that they had such important footage.

The investigation page of Al Jazeera shows that they are doing really good work that is creating actual change in the world and bringing information to their viewers that they should know.
